Bare-Naked Lola: A Lola Cruz Mystery #3, by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez (Misa Ramirez)

Based on the writing, I'd venture to say the Lola Cruz series might be worth reading even if this particular book isn't that great. It's not that it's poorly written--the characters and dialogue are okay (not stellar, but okay) but the set up is almost inexcusably weak. Our heroine, private detective and part-time Mexican chef Lola Cruz, must go undercover as a professional cheerleader. Why? Why not! Apparently some of the cheerleaders had been receiving notes so of course they would need an undercover investigator! Why not go to the police? Why not just do a regular investigation? Why tell some of the cheerleaders about the spy in their midst but not others? Ha! Silly reader! Why spend your time asking these questions when Misa Ramirez herself clearly hasn't? But if you have an uncanny ability to suspend all disbelief,

you may enjoy this book.
